Bella VoxBox – Thanks Influenster!

These are always one of my favorite posts to do – about my boxes from Influenster! New to Influenster? Check out my post here and learn a little more about them and what they do (and how YOU can get free stuff) and check out my previous VoxBoxes here.

This was a big box this time (yay!) so I have a lot to share with you. In this Bella VoxBox I received Dove Dark Chocolate Covered Blueberries, Rimmel by Kate mascara and lipstick, Eco Tools Mattifying brush, Sally Hansen Airbrushed Legs, Not Your Mother’s Déjà vu Do hair treatment, and Club W wine.

The star of this box – for me, anyway – was the Dove dark chocolate covered blueberries. Wow! I’m not normally a person who likes fruit with chocolate, but these are really, really good. They were still moist and juicy and had a wonderful pop of flavor that meshed really well with the dark chocolate. Dove also carries a cranberry variety which I’m very interested in trying. For you fellow Weight Watchers members – only two points for ¼ of the bag, which is a really decent serving size.

On to the lipstick and mascara. I was hesitant about both of these, but they’ve won me over. The mascara has a really funky looking brush, but it works wonderfully. My lashes were very long and very pronounced. My only complaint was that it wasn’t waterproof  and it did rub off easy. But a little clean up and you’re good to go.

The lipstick was a rich, wine colored red and made me think of a very vintage style. I liked it a lot. It went on smoothly and it stayed on there – I even drank coffee right afterwards and no marks were left on my cup.

I have to tell you, I’m not new to the Eco Tools line. I own most of their brushes for makeup application, so that should tell you something right away. I love that they’re made of bamboo so they don’t ever irritate my skin and they’re very easy to clean. Also, they’re cute! I love the natural wood handle with the pop of color – which also helps me differentiate between brushes, knowing what color belongs to which brush.

I used the Mattifying brush to apply my Bare Minerals Mineral Veil and it looks amazing. Great coverage. Here’s a picture of me with the lipstick, mascara, and use of the matte brush.

Not Your Mother’s is a really cool haircare line. I’ve tried a few of their products in the past, but Vu Do was a new one for me. It helps to make your hairstyles last longer. I put it on damp hair after washing and added a little curl to my hair. It really made it smooth and soft (and the apple berry scent is divine) but it was hard to tell how much longer it made the curls stick since mine normally stick around until I wash or brush them out. At any rate, I really liked it, if only for the softness and that scent.

I don’t use self tanners – I’m half Irish and I think I’m just meant to be pale. But, I liked the idea of using a little on my legs to give the illusion of wearing nylons. It worked really nicely. It spread easily and smoothly, and there weren’t any spots or splotches where the lotion didn’t spread out. It dried quickly, too.

Now for one of my favorite things in the world – wine!

Club W is a really cool online retailer for wine. You fill out a short profile and they make suggestions based on your taste.

Each month we’ll make new recommendations for you based on your Palate Profile. Go with our suggestions or make your own selections from our ever-changing assortment.

And the first bottle is free, so you can’t beat that with a stick.

I ordered three wines from Club W; the 2014 Loves Me Not Malvasia Bianca, 2014 Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy Sauvignon Blanc, and the 2014 Thorn Blossom Orange Muscat. I think I’m most excited for the Sauvignon Blanc – it just sounds like a great summer wine to sip outside on the deck.

Try it out, and use the promo code Spring4Wine to get a free bottle! Visit them at http://www.clubw.com

Schick Hydro Silk – GIVEAWAY! (ENDS 5/6)

The sun is coming out and the weather is getting warmer. That means more days outside, more time in the sun, and finally, FINALLY breaking out the shorts and sundresses. That also means getting my body ready for the shorts and sundresses – a little more dieting, a little more exercise, and yes, probably breaking out the razors more often. That’s why I was so glad when I received a set of Schick Hydro Silk razors and a bottle of Skintimate shave gel from BzzAgent.

A Taste of Lay’s Do Us A Flavor Chips

Potato chips are a favorite snack of mine. It’s pretty rare not to find a bag or two in our pantry. So I was really excited to see that Lay’s continued their Do Us a Flavor program from last year and introduced some new chip flavors.

If you don’t recall, last year they introduced three new potato chip flavors – Sriracha, Cheesy Garlic Bread, and my personal favorite, Chicken and Waffles. The public voted and (much to my heartbreak, I so loved the Chicken and Waffle chips) you can now find Cheesy Garlic Bread on your grocery shelves.

This year, they have four new flavor finalists. Cheddar Bacon Mac n Cheese, Mango Salsa, Cappuccino, and Wasabi Ginger. I stopped by the store to pick some up and have my thoughts on them for you. I will say that I did NOT try the Wasabi Ginger, simply because I don’t think I would be a good judge of it. I don’t like Wasabi so I didn’t want it to influence my feelings. I gave them a rating out of Five Stars based on taste and creativity (I watch way too much Food Network).

Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese: 5/5 Stars I definitely looked forward to trying these the most. I absolutely LOVE Mac and Cheese, and bacon makes it even better. The taste was delicious – a smoky bacon but with a real rich, creaminess at the end. Crunchy, flavorful, and perfect for when you need a cheesy fix.

Mango Salsa: 4/5 Stars This absolutely surprised me. I doubted I would like the Mango flavor. I just couldn’t see a fruit flavor working with a potato chip. There is a punch of real fruity Mango at first bite, which was unexpected and a little strange, but became very pleasant. The aftertaste is peppery and a little vinegary and reminds me of something you would find on the menu at a Southwestern style restaurant.

Cappuccino 1/5 Stars My biggest disappointment. I am a coffee addict and I was genuinely enthused at the idea of trying it in a new medium – you can get ice cream and candy and desserts, but this was the first potato chip product. The taste was syrupy and warm – kind of like an unpleasant cinnamon sensation, and the coffee flavor was just not there for me at ALL. It just tasted wrong. I give it one star because it redeemed itself SLIGHTLY after I dipped a piece in melted chocolate to see if it would balance the flavors. Definitely not something I would eat on purpose.

Stay tuned this week for a great recipe featuring the Mac and Cheese Chips!

NYC Expert Last Lip Color

As a member of Influenster, I was recently given the opportunity to review NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fuschia. It’s an amazingly bright, punchy shade of pink that would really complement any skin tone!

Image

Things I LOVE about this lipstick:

  1. The bright, summery colors.
  2. It’s very smooth and moisturizing
  3. True to its name, it definitely lasts! That pink heart on my hand was there first thing in the morning and as of 10pm tonight – after grocery shopping, cleaning, and many hand washings, it is STILL THERE!

  1. It’s $1.99 per tube. How can you go wrong with that?

Review: Playtex Sport Fresh Balance

Image

It’s getting to be nice outside finally! The snow is starting to melt, and that shy creature known as the sun has finally started to creep around Michigan.

When it gets nice like this, I absolutely want to be outside and moving around as much as possible, no matter what time of the month it is. Playtex Sport Balance are a great product for women on the move. I love that they offer the ability to be flexible and physical, while still feeling clean and protected.

In the next few weeks, I hope to be running around in my backyard, working on the outside of our house, and talking long walks downtown for ice cream.

What will you be doing?

Influenster VoxBox UniBox Review

Image

I am a member of Influenster. Every month, Influenster offers a new ‘VoxBox‘. This month, I was sent the Uni VoxBox, full of these wonderful treasures!

  • NYC New York Color Expert Last Lipstick in forever fuschia. This was a lovely, punchy shade of pink perfect for a sun dress and a nice afternoon out. It was moist and the color did last! I think this will become a summer staple for my beauty arsenal.
  • Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in light ivory. The texture of this was AWESOME. It was fluffy, smooth, and truly mousse like. It blended very well, and it shrunk my pores! I was pleasantly surprised. The matte does last for a significant part of the day.
  • Broadway Nails imPress Manicure Press on Nails in kiss and tell. I am in love with these. In love. I have smaller hands, and the short size made these look absolutely natural! They were so easy to stick on, and they are ON there! I cannot wait to buy a special pair of these for my law school graduation. I looked at their website and they have so many fun colors and designs!
  • Pilot Acrobat Pure White pen. I go through so many pens in school, and I am always happy to have another. I loved the grip on this pen and the fun yellow color, and I got a nice, smooth writing out of it.
  • Red Rose Real Tea Premium Water Enhancers in Black Tea. My fiance loves tea, so I was excited to try this. It has a sweet taste, with a slight aftertaste of orange. A small squirt was really all you needed, and I think it would be a good base for an afternoon iced tea, maybe adding a few slices of fresh fruit.
  • Playtex Sport Fresh Balance tampons.

The top of the class from this VoxBox? Undoubtedly the Broadway imPress nails! I’m in love! These fit my short hand PERFECTLY, and the pink, playful color suits me to a T! They were easy to apply and they stay in place! Just look at this!

Those are fake nails! Can you believe it?

What product would you most be excited about in this box?

Oreo Overload: Cookie Dough and Marshmallow Crispy review

Oreos are one of my favorite treats ever. You just can’t go wrong with them. So I was really excited whe I saw that Oreo was introducing two new flavors! Marshmallow Crispy and Cookie Dough. Naturally, I ran to the store and immediately snatched them up!

Image

Cookie Dough

Cookie: The outside cookie was a typical Oreo – chocolately and crunchy.

Filling: The filling was thick and had bits of chocolate chip cookie mixed it.

It wasn’t an exact chocolate chip cookie dough taste, and the filling was a little thicker and less smooth than I would have liked.

Rating: 2/5

Marshmallow Crispy

Cookie: The cookie was a play on a Golden Oreo, with a wonderful, slightly buttery taste. Delicious!

Filling: The cream filling was awesome! It reminded me of a fluffier Double Stuf filling, with a marshmallow aftertaste and crunchy rice cereal.

These were the clear winner out of the two! They were absolutely delicious! Crunchy, buttery, and marshmallow-y, they REALLY tasted like a cereal treat, but with that wonderful cream and crunch that is only Oreo.

Rating: 5/5

Oreo has a LOT of flavors now, but my perennial favorite will always be Double Stuf. Birthday Cake and Fudge Covered Coconut are close behind!

Not interested in Cookie Dough or Marshmallow? Try Oreo Lemon, Neopolitan, Fudge Covered Mint, Peanut Butter, and so much more!

What’s your favorite Oreo?

Subscription Boxes: Ipsy Glam

Image

In my previous post I reviewed my monthly box from BIRCHBOX. Today, I’m going to show you my monthly glam bag from Ipsy.

Ipsy is a beauty company created by Michelle Phan that sends a monthly cosmetic bag filled with five beauty samples. Ipsy promises to include full-size samples customized for you.

This month I received

– a blue cosmetic bag (I tend to donate a lot of these, or use them as gift wrappers for people – you can only use so many!)

– Briogeo
Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask

– Épicé
Purifying Exfoliant

– MicaBeauty
Tinted Lip Balm

– Proactiv+
Mark Fading Pads

– yaby
Liquid Foundation

This bag was not as exciting as some in the past have been. I’ve gotten awesome blushes and lip stains from Mirabella and Bombshell, or a new roll on perfume, or a full sized nail polish.

Ipsy tends to be far more hit and miss than Birchbox, who has to go pretty far to not find something exciting.

I am excited to try the Proactiv wipes, and I enjoyed the hair conditioning mask.
